Are we still gonna get WoD content?

Hi, I'm fairly new to the setting but I still find these vids incredibly interesting. My fav clan is Lasombra (I've already seen your vid on them), and while I can't say I 'most identify' with them, I do feel like I am somehow drawn to them, probably a combination of their feature set, their ambitious/ruthless nature and their lack of remorse in going for it. My second interest is the Giovanni though, I just like how unapologetic they seem to be. Incestuous but also proud. Powerful and yet seemingly do nothing with that power other than to amass more power. I find them fascinating because I find them very contradictory. I'm also a huge fan of unreliable narrators, especially when framed as an 'official' response. First really became aware of it as I am a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 IP as well, and all the codexes tend to be written from a pro-Imperial slant when you come to the fluff/history pieces, but now I just find that unreliable narrators should give you enough to be knowledgeable of a certain area, but it should be suspicious enough that you can draw your own conclusions, and therefore I think it's a valuable plot element in its own right. Anyway, I find it would be quite hilarious in a sense, if 'the Cappodacian' is in fact Cappodocius (unless I guess it's already been 'proven' in some way within the plot that isn't the case) and that him getting the grandkids so to speak to off their Elders is actually quite clever given that, well, the amount of effort he'd have to expend is quite minimal. Is it your intention that Augustus is indeed 'dead'? And is death for something like Augustus (or even Cappodocius) 'the end'? Perhaps the original problem with the GIovanni was that not enough effort was made to actually incorporate them into the wider setting. I get that this would have been left to the players (or rather the story teller), but you'd think that a Giovanni loanshark would occasionally task one of his childer to beat up a guy who owes him money, and perhaps the GIovanni childer would even volunteer for the job because that would mean he would gain a leg up on that dratted Denise girl who master seems to be playing favourites with, etc.

Goodness gracious!! I just realized that you are writing on v5! A dream come true im sure! Heres a quick question for you, and i mean this with no snarkyness. Why should I buy V5 over VtM20, VtM revised, or Requiem 2e?

I definitely appreciate your deep dives and insight, not only as a developer but also as a fan. Your videos going all the way back to the beginning have been entertaining and educational. Thank you for putting these out.

Well, considering how WoD was handled before V5, It's not really a surprise to see storytellers complaining about clear metaplot definitions. That's how they were fed from previous editions and that's the kind of player and STs the setting has attracted since the beginning of time.

Loved this vid and hearing your design explanation! Question: I’m kind of confused by the wording of the Lasombra Compulsion, and how it differs from the Tremere’s (attempting the same action until you succeed). Can you provide an example of the Lasombra compulsion within play in a session?

The really sad thing is that many of the new things in the world of darkness somehow miss the point in what it was to play this creatures. The Edition 5 Vamps fell like a buch of tattoo hipsters and nothing more. Tzimisce lost it completely, they were pure alienated body horror and now are just anoter Ventrue Toreador something. I don't really feel it. I still wish that Onyx Path could have put more work into WOD to hold up a certain standard. But I love the COD it's now the better rpg, especially Hunter the Vigil is fir me superior to Reckoning.

My primary Lasombra character is the only character I or anyone else in the group ever had the Dark Fate flaw. He picked it up in a Dark Ages game (a dark/reluctant knight concept) where we started our characters & played all the way up to modern day (early 2000s at the time) & the last chronicle that was set to wrap things up & the hubby & I had to move. That was only 1 of 2 elder games I played. The rest were neonate & a few ancillae games. Good times.

Hehe... Reminds me of a fellow player who played a young, streetwise Lasombra once: He pulled a couple of credit cards out of his wallet & held them close to his face. "Do you accept Visa?" No. "Do you accept Mastercard?" No. Do you accept Dominate?" *points to his eye* ... dammit! "Gotcha!"

So, no retirement plan for Dancers them?

An addendum to what you said about the worst way of playing being the stereotype: I think it deserves a caveat, that with your experience might not have thought worth mentioning: If you like playing that stereotype, if you think it'll be fun, absolutely go for it. The point I believe you wanted to make is that nobody should feel restricted by the stereotypes, and there is enough nuance for the possibility of any character, even a Tzimisce who loves and venerates life and happiness. I remember I wanted to play as a Tzimisce scientist, and I got shit on because it was a stereotype. I had no idea about that, and I felt good for coming up with the idea. In the end I was just so disappointed that I ended up not playing.

Best part of VTM is the lore.

I’m Italian and there was nothing offensive about the Giovanni in oWOD. The Italian mobster death clan was awesome fun. The clan book was also my favorite to read through.

Revised edition gave us all 13 clans and a brief summary of both sects. V5 should have done the same. There is NO excuse for v5 to have so little in the core book. It had been so many years since revised came out and V20 was a great follow up that gave us everything all in 1 book. That was great. V5 should have done the same. Give us all the clans with updated lore and new direction of the metaplot and let players decide for themselves what their game will include and focus on. Some groups like elders campaigns, others like neonate parties. Some want to play Camarilla, others Anarchs, or even Sabbat. Stop trying to control players and just put out a complete game. A core book should allow you to do all. V5 is an incomplete game and feels like a neutered version of what revised/V20 offers. Especially true with the new Sabbat book that DOESN’T EVEN INCLUDE RULES FOR PLAYING SABBAT. Pathetic.

Lasombra are great in oWOD. I played a lasombra Sabbat pack leader named The Scot. He was this Scottish privateer that got turned in the late 1700’s and was torpored shortly after. He woke up in modern nights and quickly rose to power fighting Camarilla for control of Baltimore. He had swagger and was super witty and cool. Made a great antagonist. Lasombra 3 disciplines were great.

I really hate that V5 didn’t put all 13 clans in core book. It’s not the company’s job to dictate which clans are playable. You put it all in core book and let players decide for themselves what and how to play.

Some of my favorite PCs were Giovanni and Setite. I had a Giovanni who operated a gun running organization in Baltimore. It was goodfellas meets interview with the vampire and it was awesome. My setite was a drug dealer in New Orleans. It was a super dark game riddled with the occult that was very lovecraftian.

I’ve been playing VtM since revised edition. I hate V5 for numerous reasons but I do appreciate the lore updates and think the beckoning is a cool idea. The power vacuum and chaos it will create, to me, is the coolest aspect of it. A book should come out that fleshes out the war going on in the Middle East between the Sabbat and all these older or ancient kindred. It could be a really fun time having PCs go join the fight as elders themselves. Several antediluvians rising in an epic climax of destruction. I have never followed the metaplot exactly but I love to see what the official published plot is and then I tweak it to what I want it to be for my world.
